ID before prizes
What Chumba asks for before it pays a prize, and how long you have
Chumba verifies an account before its first redemption: a selfie, a photo ID and proof of address from the last 6 months, plus a bank statement to confirm a bank account. Above US$2,000 the Terms and Conditions 27.0 add source-of-funds checks, and clause 9.4 allows 30 days to send what is requested.
When Chumba Casino verification happens
Chumba Casino verification comes before the first prize, whatever its size. Chumba's account verification page, in an archived copy of 7 March 2026, puts it plainly: “You'll need to verify your account before you can redeem any of your prizes.” The Redemption Options page repeats the rule for anyone who reaches the redeem button first.
The Terms and Conditions 27.0 (13 July 2026, read on 11 September 2026) set the frame in clauses 9.1 to 9.4. Clause 9.1 permits identification, credit and other checks, including precise geolocation, to meet legal and regulatory duties, to prevent financial crime and to confirm where you are playing from. Clause 9.2 decides what happens to a redemption while the checks run. Clause 9.3 sets a dollar line for extra checks, and clause 9.4 sets the deadline.
The practical rule follows: verify early, while nothing is waiting on it. Why verification sits in front of every cash or gift-card prize is explained on the real-money page.
The documents on Chumba's list
| Document | What is asked | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Selfie | a selfie photo | account verification page, archived 7 March 2026 |
| Photo ID | driver's license, passport or ID card | account verification page, archived 7 March 2026 |
| Proof of address | dated within the last 6 months | account verification page, archived 7 March 2026 |
| Bank statement | within the last 6 months, to verify a bank account for payment | redeem-prizes page, archived 2 February 2026 |
| Source of funds or wealth | above US$2,000, for example a payslip or bank statement | Terms 27.0, cl. 9.3 |
Clause 9.3 names the extra documents by type: photo identification such as a passport, proof of address such as a utility bill, and source-of-wealth or source-of-funds documentation such as a payslip or bank statement.
The Customer Acceptance Policy 9.0 (28 August 2025) sits above these clauses with a risk classification of its own. It says that if you fail or refuse to send required information within the communicated timeframe, the operator may end the relationship and close the account. The number behind “communicated timeframe” is the 30 days in clause 9.4 of the Terms.
Three details decided on the day you sign up
Most verification trouble starts long before a redemption. Three clauses explain why, and a fourth detail decides where a gift card lands.
Your registered name. Clause 5.3 requires it to be identical to the name on your government-issued ID. A nickname or shortened name at sign-up becomes a mismatch months later, on the day money is due.
Your payment method. Clause 8.8 pays cash only into an account in your verified name, and clause 6.3 of the Sweeps Rules 26.0 sends cash back to the account or wallet the Gold Coins were bought from. A card or wallet in someone else's name fails both tests.
The age of your documents. Proof of address and bank statements have to date from the last 6 months, per Chumba's help pages. An old utility bill is the easiest document to replace before it is needed.
Your email address. A Prizeout gift card goes to the email address on the account under clause 6.4 of the Sweeps Rules, so an inbox you still use is part of getting paid.
Each of those costs nothing to get right at the start, and each is expensive to fix at the end.
What pending means under clause 9.2
Clause 9.2 is the sentence behind most “where is my prize” questions. Until all required checks are completed to the operator's satisfaction, a redemption request stays pending, and the account may be restricted, suspended or closed in the meantime.
Clause 5.1 of the Sweeps Rules adds the prize side. A participant is a winner only once eligibility and the winning play are verified, whatever the screen showed, and the operator relies on its own validation rather than on screenshots.
Pending, then, is a state of the check, and the payment clocks start after it. Clause 8.14 handles approved requests in the order received, and clause 8.16 allows up to 10 business days for a bank payment. The full sequence, including how to cancel a pending request, is on the redemption time page.
The US$2,000 check and the 30-day deadline
The figure. Clause 9.3 applies additional procedures to any cumulative or single redemption exceeding US$2,000. The word cumulative matters: several smaller prizes can reach the line as surely as one large one.
What it adds. Photo ID, proof of address and source-of-funds or source-of-wealth documents, per the same clause.
The window. Clause 9.4 gives 30 days from the date a document is first requested. After that, the operator may close or restrict the account.
The clock running beside it. Sweeps Coins expire 60 days after your last log-on under clause 8.22, so a long spell away from the account during a check carries its own risk.
Chumba prints both a figure and a deadline, which means both can be planned for. Keep a running total of what you have redeemed, and have the source-of-funds paperwork ready before the total approaches US$2,000.
When a check fails or runs out of time
A failed or unfinished check has consequences written into three documents:
- Terms 27.0, clause 9.4. Once 30 days have passed since the first request, the operator may close or restrict the account.
- Customer Acceptance Policy 9.0. Failing or refusing to send required information within the communicated timeframe lets the operator end the relationship and close the account.
- Terms 27.0, clauses 21.1 and 21.4. Failing due diligence is one of 17 grounds for suspension or closure, and a suspended account stays locked for the whole suspension.
For a balance, clause 9.5 tells a player with money in a suspended or closed account to contact support, and the same provision adds that it conveys no right to that redemption. Clause 5.15 lets a closed account be reopened on request, after the support and compliance teams evaluate it.
Support has its own clock. Clause 20.4 says the team will endeavor to reply within 10 calendar days, or up to 20 in some circumstances under clause 20.5, and clause 20.6 offers a voluntary external review by eCOGRA once the internal process ends. The practical order: answer early, keep copies of what you send, and ask support in writing what is missing well before day 30.
Chumba Casino verification against the alternatives' rules
Other sweepstakes operators write their own triggers. Every row below comes from the operator's document on the date shown; we verified an account at none of them.
| Brand | What triggers a check or is asked | Document, date |
|---|---|---|
| Chumba Casino | before any redemption; extra checks above US$2,000; 30 days to send documents | Terms 27.0, cl. 9.2–9.4, 13 July 2026 |
| Global Poker (VGW) | extra checks above US$2,000; the Daily Bonus needs a verified account | Terms 25.2, cl. 9.3, 7 April 2026; Sweeps Rules 25.0, cl. 3.2(c)(iii), 13 July 2026 |
| High 5 Casino | may verify at every redemption; state-issued ID or driver's license, selfie, proof of address; Social Security number at US$2,000 or more per request or calendar year | Official Rules 43.0, cl. 8.7 and 9.1, 26 June 2026; help page archived 16 June 2026 |
| WOW Vegas | before any redemption: liveness selfie, photo ID, proof of address from the last 3 months | help centre, updated 5 May 2026 |
| Jackpota | government ID with a selfie; proof of address within 90 days | help centre, updated 1 September 2026 |
| RealPrize | government ID may be required before redemption; Social Security number at US$600 or more a year | Promotional Play Rules 2.8, cl. 9.12, 1 January 2026 |
| Modo.us | photo ID, biometric face scan, proof of address and Social Security number validation; the number once total redemptions pass US$600 | Official Rules, 29 May 2026 |
| Stake.us | identification required before any redemption; ID and proof of address asked at registration | Terms and Conditions 18.0, cl. 13.1(e), 10 July 2026 |
| Fortune Wins | verified details must match the account; extra checks above US$2,000; review up to 1 month after documents | Sweeps Rules 4.7, cl. 5.6, 5.11 and 6.1, 13 August 2026 |
Two patterns stand out. The US$2,000 line is shared by the VGW rulebooks and Fortune Wins, and High 5 ties its Social Security number request to the same figure. RealPrize and Modo.us set their Social Security number line lower, at US$600. Proof-of-address windows differ as well: 6 months at Chumba, 3 months at WOW Vegas, 90 days at Jackpota.
Global Poker, Chumba's sister site, moves verification earlier on one point: its Daily Bonus requires a verified account (Sweeps Rules 25.0, clause 3.2(c)(iii)), so a Global Poker player meets the check before any prize is in view. Stake.us asks for ID and proof of address at registration, which moves it earlier still.

Crypto casinos and ID: our two money tests
Crypto casinos set identity rules in their own terms, and we have tested exactly two with our own money. Both are real-money casinos, and neither runs sweepstakes coins. The results below are ours on the dates shown, and the next account follows each casino's terms on the day it opens.
Vave, our advertiser, licensed by the Curaçao Gaming Authority (OGL/2024/1676/0905, Latcas B.V.). On 28 August 2026 we made a deposit, played and withdrew, and no ID was requested up to 5,000 USDT. The cashier takes BTC, ETH, USDT, LTC, DOGE and TON.
TrustDice, tested in May 2026. Crypto withdrawals arrived in 10–15 minutes each. ID was first requested after about 5,000 USDT had been withdrawn, and verification followed at that point.
The contrast with Chumba is one of timing. A sweepstakes operator like Chumba verifies before the first prize. In both crypto tests the first withdrawals went through before any document request, and at TrustDice the request arrived at a threshold. How the two models differ beyond ID is on the real-money page for Chumba players.
A verification checklist before your first redemption
- Register under the exact name on your government ID (clause 5.3).
- Buy Gold Coins only from a card, wallet or bank account in that name (clause 8.8; Sweeps Rules, clause 6.3).
- Keep a proof of address and a bank statement from the last 6 months ready.
- Verify before your balance reaches 100 redeemable Sweeps Coins, so the first request can go straight in.
- Answer any document request inside 30 days (clause 9.4), and track your cumulative redemptions against US$2,000 (clause 9.3).
- Log in at least once every 60 days while you wait, since Sweeps Coins expire 60 days after the last log-on (clause 8.22).
If a check ends with a decision to leave, redeem what you can before you close anything; the order that protects a balance is on the account closing page.
